Project SK22, developed in 1933 and 1934, was based on 1916-class World War I super destroyers. One of the project versions suggested that the ships be equipped with four 150 mm guns. The operational use of such destroyers was considered debatable: The ship was too unstable a platform for artillery fire, even with her displacement exceeding 2,000 tons. This was one of the major reasons why the Kriegsmarine administration gave preference to a project with smaller caliber artillery.
